Black Mountains Tour

Absolutely worth doing.... just to say you did.

Review

Good Points
Some great hiking to enter into the log book. Climbing the highest mountain east of the Mississippi river is notable, camping is adequate except on the ridge trail.
Bad Points
Brutal and muddy. Ridge trail slippery and precarious in places. Tourist trap at the top of Mitchell is a bit jarring after a wilderness journey.

An amazing destination, 1:30 from NE Atlanta. Probably the most easy access to 5000+ foot terrain that I can recall.

Review

Good Points
Basically a choose your own adventure route can be had, taking the easy route from the 2nd parking area or the rather challenging route from the first parking area. Views are second to none.
Bad Points
Water access is available within a half mile, and potentially at 1/4 mile from the trail from parking, campsites are limited at top, with basically only 2 to speak of.

Cool product for tailgating if you like that kind of thing.

Review

Good Points
Strong durable polycarbonate construction, can lower the window with it attached, no noise like the flags, no risk of loss if you lower your window partially. Cool Unique design
Bad Points
If you lower it all the way, you might lose it.

Neat place if Stone mountain leaves you looking for less commercialization and people.

Review

Good Points
Fairly unique, interesting terrain and geology, plenty to do here to kill a day.
Bad Points
Not very strenuous, or off the map. Sees some regular visitors due to its proximity to Klondike rd.

Check it out if you are down this way and need a place to crash the night, otherwise relatively unremarkable. It does offer a genuine swamp view.

Review

Good Points
Unique place for the mountain camper, great introduction to swamp-type camping, camp amenities are nice.
Bad Points
Nothing terribly exciting here, no hiking to speak of, or much else, but golf.

Yeah, uh, skip this one... but.. Big Nuts!

Review

Good Points
None..other than the entrance is a hole 2ft in diameter and feels rather like slipping into a coffin, which is where you might end up after dropping this hole.
Bad Points
Methane filled, nothing but rotting leaves and mud at the bottom.

Snail Shell Cave Rappel

Awesome place!

Review

Good Points
Fun drop into a cave sink, summer rappel through the falls is refreshing and fun.
Bad Points
After very heavy rains, it can flood at the bottom and can prevent a safety risk. If one were to fall into this whirlpool without restraint, there could easily be no rescue.

Worth seeing, but be sure you know what you are doing, or go with someone who does. It has been opened and closed to access over the years

Review

Good Points
Amazing Drainage Cave, allowing you to see underground rivers in action.
Bad Points
Potentially dangerous, and subject to rapid flooding, producing a number of casualties over the years
